OMG – just when I saw “boarding” blinking next to my flight number, on the screens at Larnaca airport, I realized that it was really happening!
I am now sitting at my window seat on this plane, waiting to take off.
It will be just a 1 hour flight, one of those when by the time you take off and have a snack, it’s already time to land. In 1 hour I will be in Amman! Can’t believe it, and I feel like crying out of joy. This is how my #MEtrip gets real.
Istanbul was amazing but “easy” as I was hosted by a local that showed me around. Cyprus but pure beauty but still felt like Europe. Now I am really heading to the Middle East and I will be on my own. And you know what? I am so happy!
Around me I hear people speaking Arabic – how beautiful is the Jordanian accent – and as funny as it sounds, after the incomprehensible Turkish and Greek I finally understand something! I feel like I am getting closer to where I belong. After all, I am on the way to Egypt… ie home.
A kid just yelled “yalla!” to the plane.
I will land in Amman quite late and will explore the city tomorrow. On wednesday I’ll be off to Petra and Wadi Rum afterwards. So excited. Good night everyone… this is one of the most memorable birthdays I’ve ever had.

It is SO exciting flying to and around the Middle East! Much more exciting than trips to any other part of the world, I think. The atmosphere even at the airports seems so exotic and electric to me. And deboarding the plane – almost always down stairs onto the tarmac rather than on a jetway leading inside the airport, which is how it’s done in most Mid Eastern locations – always gives me an exciting sense of just wwhere in the world I am. Have an exotic and awesome time on the rest of your Middle Eastern journey!
