I was going through some old photos and couldn’t help but giggle a bit when I saw this. So many memories came to my mind. During my 6 months in New York City (back in 2009), I had a 3 days trip to San Francisco, California – and I LOVED that city!
So what do you do when you’re in SanFran? Of course you want to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. And what’s the best way? By bike! Oh yes, of course. If only I was the athletic kind I wish I was. I remember than even on the ramps, before actually getting to the bridge I thought I was dying already. Struggling of the non athletic traveler: while everybody is having fun I am just barely managing to breathe!
And then the bridge: man, it’s a long way to get to the other side. Then I finally found this kind of widening on the side and stopped to rest a bit. My facial expression says it all!
I am so clumsy. I am the least athletic person in the world. Shall I remind you that I broke a vertebra just trying to snowboard? Here I reminded you!
Getting to the bridge and crossing, then going back to the bike rental took a couple of hours… and surprisingly I survived! I even got my nose and forearms sunburnt. Athletic and sexy.
Sometimes I think that being a traveler and being a klutz at the same time is a problem. Hiking, climbing, cycling… Am I going to survive? Well, at least for now I did… Hey, is there anyone like me out there? Or you are all super duper trained and agile and athletic or can I still hang out with you? : )

i live here and i’d be huffing and puffing right along with you-lol-if i could keep up! ;) i’m hoping i can change that in the near future, so that i can do more on my own fuel to save $ and be greener, but as of yet…;P
at least you know how to gorgeously document your physical challenges! great photos and fun post :)
Hehe, thanks, good to know I’m not the only one who can keep up :p Glad you liked the photos! San Francisco is a beautiful city and I’d love to go back :)
haha Sweet post chica! :) But I bet the view was amazing though. Look at the photo!! It reminds me of my Angkor wat pushbike expedition… I’m quite an athelet but guess not that great. hehe
We need more practice sis!
Hey sis, I am sure you’re more athletic than me… I am the anti-sport! Lol :)
Yes, the view and the experience definitely paid off… what a beautiful day after all!
I, too, am not in shape by any means but I still put myself in similar situations. I went snowboarding once and decided for some reason to go on a trail. I couldn’t stand up for more than a few seconds at a time and the trail was 45 min long. I cried all the way down… BUT FINISHED!
OMG Erica, the trail with the snowboard!!! I would have probably walked carrying the board… crying as well, of course :p
I am sure it was a memorable experience though :)
Haha, that’s brilliant. I’m not in shape at all which is why I’ve started taking exercise classes now so that when I head off on my travels I’m not so restricted.
Way to go Ceri! You will be much more prepared than I am :) And for sure you will enjoy this kind of experiences much more than me, hehe :)
