So I’ve been a bit of a desaparecida lately. Yes I’ve been busy but still, I have so many things going through my head and not a single interesting post to write about. At least so it seems. Is it writer’s block? Or just lack of subjects? Let’s see what happens… So I’ll just go with the flow!
I could write about my “best of 2010” but I thought about that: if I had to give this year a mark, it would be just a 6. I am freakin’ happy now that I’m in Cairo but I had the worst time of my life for the first months, when I had the accident. So Just half of the year was good. Not worth writing a post about it I guess!
I could write about my new job: I’m a marketing and pr manager in a sports club. Which is cool and I have a looot of work. Yes but I don’t really feel like writing about this… would be boring and could look like bragging. And I don’t mean it. But there’s something I’m very proud about and it’s the Christmas tree I did for the club!
I could write about how amazed I am everytime I try some new street food in Cairo. Yes, this would definitely deserve a post. In Cairo you can order basically anything just parking your car in front of the kiosks and the waiters will come to your car and serve food, drinks, delicious fruit juices, or even shisha.
Tonight I had rice with fried shrimps (delicious), served with Tahina (a typical sesame paste I LOVE) and bread… for 5 EGP (about 60 Eurocent). And a Pepsi from a kiosk for 2 EGP. Total: 7 Egp (not even 1 Euro) for a big delicious meal! Gotta love Cairo street food!
I could write about the fact that I’ve been homesick for the last 2 weeks or so. I can’t explain why. Maybe just because I am so tired and Cairo is not really the best place to relax a bit. I guess any other place would work in this moment, but going to the movies and seeing a movie set in Italy made me feel so homesick all at once, and now the feeling is still there. Pretty sure that if I went back I would be running away from there again in less than a week. So there’s no point in writing about this…
I could write about the other job and share some funny pictures of me dressed as a fairy, doing a tea party with the kids. Yes this is a job and yes they pay me to do this! Unbelievable… I love it and I love my “pupils”. But ehm, I mean, is it something interesting to write about?
I could write about when I had a friend visiting last week, and we went to the Giza Pyramids, the Khan el Khalili market, the Citadel… boooooring.
I could tell you I took hieroglyphics classes (interesting but hard), Arabic calligraphy classes (with poor results, alas) and then I just left the courses because I was too busy. Shiftless me. But at least I got free Arabic classes in change of a photo shooting of the workshop. Not bad, I mean.
I could write about the desert trip I had on December 25th and 26th… If only I went! We canceled 1 day before as everyone else couldn’t join anymore. I was looking forward to write about it, but there’s no desert trip to write about.
I could write about my last adventure in Alexandria, where I got stuck for 7 hours in the fog. Not that exciting. Only positive side: I learned a new word in Egyptian Arabic: shabbura (fog) – will never forget it!
Ok, as you see there are many things happening in my life – but apparently everything looks too normal to me now. Time for a change?

I think all of your suggestions would make great blog posts. So many people will never go to Khan al Khalili and everywhere else that is looking too blase to you right now. I know exactly what you mean with every word of this post! I think I’ve been through or am going through everything you’ve described. Except for being the head of PR at a hotel. I love the photo of the drive-up shisha smoking!! :)

I’m with Sabina on hearing about those posts! I have to admit, I’m slightly jealous of you and your pupils. It looks like you had a blast.
You are full of ideas. ;) Absolutely fabolous.. the pyramids. Wow, can’t wait to see it myself.
Writer’s block is a such a bitch. You know, you have these wonderful ideas and just won’t come out as words! I still have few more debatable ideas for months and months, but just can’t get that out.
Totally with you sister.
I’d love to see the Giza Pyramids some day in my life time. Your epic photo of it accentuates perfectly the sheer size. Looks extremely warm and dry there too!
